Parts

SPIKE – is placed in the center of game play and used to draw the world circle, divide land by number of players, and is where the opponent that was declared war on places the BATON and yells “STOP”!

BATON – is the stick used to declare war on an opponent and is what that opponent must hit the SPIKE and yell stop to make the other opponents stop.

SWIVEL – Attaches to the SPIKE once it is screwed into the sand and is used to draw a perfect circle in the sand.

BATON INSERT – Screws into the BATON and is used to draw the world circle.

ATTACK BALL – Used to attack opponents.

Setup

  1. Screw the BATON into the top of the SPIKE. Then find a flat area in the sand preferably away from on coming waves but in sand that is firm (soft sand can work but makes it harder to see the lines and is often hot). Screw the SPIKE into the center of the play area until it is sturdy and will not move.

  2. Gently unscrew the BATON from the SPIKE leaving the SPIKE in the sand. Screw the SWIVEL on top of the SPIKE and then screw the BATON INSERT into the BATON.

  3. Extend the rope out as far as possible without pulling the SPIKE out of the sand and use the BATON to draw a circle around the SPIKE. This becomes your game play area that will be divided up into territories.

  4. Unscrew the BATON INSERT from the BATON.

  5. Based on the number of players, use the rope as a guide. Align the rope on the player lines on the SWIVEL and pull the rope out to the edge of the circle. Then use the BATON to trace from the SWIVEL, down the line to the edge of the circle. Repeat this process to allow each player an equal amount of land within the circle.

RED = 3 players

BLUE = 4 players

GREEN = 5 players

PURPLE = 6 players

  1. After the land is divided you can unscrew the SWIVEL and set it aside with the rope and BATON INSERT as they are not used during play.

  2. Players pick the land they want to play from. Younger players pick first.

Objective

To take over the world by seizing control of your opponent’s land.

Land is taken two ways:

  1. By avoiding being hit by the ATTACK BALL.

  2. By successfully hitting an opponent with the ATTACK BALL once you have been declared war on.

Round of play and rules

  1. Youngest player starts with the battle BATON and says “I declare war on…. <opponent’s name>” at the same time throws the BATON onto the land of that opponent. Opponents can not catch the BATON in the air. It must hit the sand first.

  2. Every player that did not get war declared on, runs until the player that had war declared on (Attacker) picks up the BATON and hits the SPIKE in the center of the world and yells “STOP”!

  3. Every player then stops and stands still. They cannot move their feet.

  4. The Attacker then chooses a player they are going to attack, and they have three steps from their property to get closer to that player. (Steps can be actual steps, jumps even skips so long as there are only three times the foot hits the ground.)

  5. Attacker then throws the ball at the player they are attacking. The player being attacked (Defender) can move around but their feet must stay firmly on the ground. Bending arms, legs, torso, knees are all allowed but you cannot move your feet. (If the defender moves their feet, it is considered a war violation, and the attacker wins the battle)

  6. If the Defender gets hit with the ball, then the attacker gets to take land from them. If the Defender avoids being hit with the ball, then the Defender takes land from the Attacker.

  7. The Attacker now has the battle BATON to declare war on the next player.

  8. This process continues until there are only 2 players left in the world and the player with the most land at that point wins the game.

Taking Land

  1. The player that is taking land must stay on their own property and they cannot move their feet or knees (which ever is touching the sand) once they start taking land. If a knee or foot moves while taking land, it is considered a foul and no land can be taken.

  2. Land is taken by making a continuous circle that begins at a spot connected to your land and ends when it reaches back to that spot. Taking land must respect all other players’ land boundaries that were not involved in the battle.

  3. Any dividing lines that segment a player’s land from other land they own should be erased and the new lines would be the new property boundaries for that player.

Variant Rules

  1. Younger, older or shorter players can have steps added or taken away to even the playing field as needed when attacking another player.

  2. Two players can continue to play after everyone else is eliminated if a time limit is set.

Recommendations

  1. During game play it is easy for other players to step on boundary lines, and it is up to the owner of those boundaries to keep up with them.

  2. It is recommended to toss the BATON underhand when declaring war to avoid any injuries.
